GREEN BAY, Wis. – A few close games to begin the season led to an offensive outbreak for the Green Bay Glory (2-0-1), scoring three goals en route to a 3-2 Friday night over Chicago City FC (1-1-0) at Capital Credit Union Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Glory had an early threat going and was able to find the back of the net in the 12th minute to go up 1-0. Christine Kitaru scored the goal and was just getting started. Four minutes later, she nearly scored again but was denied. In the 22nd minute, Kitaru was just wide with another shot. Green Bay would continue to pounce on offense, garnering several more opportunities before heading into halftime up 1-0.
Green Bay’s defense would step up in the second half when Chicago City found an offensive groove. Chicago City came out with a corner kick in the 54th minute, starting a nearly 20-minute onslaught of shots and chances in GB territory. However, that onslaught was interrupted thanks to Kitaru, who notched her second goal of the game in the 58th minute to put the Glory up 2-0. She juked out three City players on her way toward the net. Chicago City would respond in a quick fashion with a goal in the 63rd minute.

From there, Glory goalkeeper Alyssa Stumbaugh would go to work, rejecting multiple Chicago corner kicks. As the end of the game neared, the Glory scored another goal to put the game away, this time from Ally Cruz, getting an assist from Abby Gemza. Chicago City scored a goal off a penalty kick in extra time, but the game was called just moments after it was scored.
