Saturday night marks the end of the 2019 WPSL season as the Green Bay Glory travel south to take on the Milwaukee Torrent. The winner of the match is guaranteed a top three finish in the Midwestern Conference.
Green Bay looks to return the favor of the 2-1 loss the Torrent handed them in their first match the season at Aldo Santaga Stadium. The Glory have won two of their past three WPSL matches, outscoring their opponents 6-2 during those three games.
Milwaukee has struggled down the stretch, going 1-1-1 over their last three games, scoring five but also conceding five goals during those matches. The Torrent have yet to lose at home this season, making Saturday night that much more interesting.
The Glory played a midweek friendly against North Shore United U23s and lost 2-1. âThe team was looking for younger players to get playing time and rest some of their veterans ahead of the final match against Milwaukee,â said team owner Kerry Geocaris.
Coach Chad Johnson looks forward to playing the final match of the season and hopefully ending what has already been a successful season on a high note.
âThe girls played really good soccer against Chicago City. We possessed in the midfield, marked well as a team in the defense and we created a series of scoring chances early. We have learned a lot as a team this season and each game played has made us better. Iâm excited to play Torrent as our last match because they were our first match of the season. Iâm expecting big games from our leaders and Iâm expecting the first few subs to increase the game tempo. Honestly, this match has a huge impact on the standings and how we feel about our first season overall."
